How the calculation works
Inventory Value = Units on Hand × Unit Cost
The risk classification (Low Risk, Watch, High Risk, or Possible Dead-Stock Risk) is based on units sold in the last 90 days and days since the last sale (or overall inventory age, for items that have never sold).
Example
84 units on hand, $26 unit cost, 143 days since the last sale, 0 units sold in the last 90 days:
- Inventory Value = 84 × $26 = $2,184
- 143 days since last sale → High Risk
This item has 84 units on hand, has not sold in 143 days, and represents $2,184 of inventory cost.
How to interpret the result

When this metric can be misleading
Sales patterns vary by category and season. A 150-day gap is unremarkable for some slow-turning categories and alarming for others. Never treat this classification as a guaranteed diagnosis — it is a starting point for a decision, not the decision itself.
